_081221: Chillin' With Wale

I’ve been unsure of Wahhhh-laaaay for a while. Nike Boots was a struck of genius, solid gold, no question about that, but then he does things like this with Daniel Merriweather:

Wale’s part is okay, love the piano in the background, but I rather see him doing things like this new called Chillin’, coz it’s DA BOMB! Love the Cool and Dre production and the sampling of the olden goldie Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye) by Steam. And yeah, Change works, if it’s remixed by The Count of Monte Cristal that is. Wale has a new mixtape in store for 2009 called "Back to the Feature" and it will be interesting to see what more type of collabos there will be on that one, and also, let’s hope the mixtape with him and Young Chris comes alive.

Update.: The links for Chillin' are removed by request, the leak is an unfinished demo-song, but it was a glimpse of what's in store for the future; big things that is.

_081221: Ether Boooy

Thursdays I jumped on the train to Hultsfred and my parents and as soon as I opened the front door I walked into al mayhem deluxe. My parents have some habit of always restoring and touch up our house just before Christmas and this year is no exception. So the past days I’ve been busy helping my father, the painter, to assist and put up some new wallpaper and things like that. I love being here thou, no stress, haven’t slept this good in months.

Speaking of good for that matter, I liked Ron Browz’ Pop Champagne but to be perfectly honest, Jumping Out Da Window is waaay better. It’s that type of song I can listen to 50 times in a row without getting tired of it. One thing, I don’t understand what’s newsworthy of Behind The Scenes like this:

Yeah yeah, u shot a video, green screen, markers, lip-sync and some girl in lacquer leggings is probably gonna fly out the window (see the girl crawling at 1:06)? Okay if u put some audio commentary about it all, if it’s unlike every other music video or something. Now it all looks generic, just dumb and silly. Yeah I know, it’s an ad, of what’s in store for the future, but anyway, it annoys me. Well, I better shut my pie hole before it rains in more comments in the box above that I’m such a hater shouldn’t I?

This on the other hand has some purpose to it, learn the official dance (or dance, I beg to differ, move is a better term for it):

Ron Browz’ album drops the 17th of March and its gonna be some killer tracks on that one, that’s for sure. Btw, If anyone has missed it, N.O.R.E is on a diet, he has lost over 70 lbs! Good work, he doesn’t sound as fat anymore as u can hear in the remix of Jumping Out Da Window.

Pop Champagne for that matter, haven’t a single idea of what I’m doing for NYE, I’m probably gonna be in Hultsfred, and yeah, the range of things to do is like zero to none. Well, I’m heading up to Stockholm the 2nd of January for a week so I’m not crying blood if I end up spending it alone with the family cats, I haven’t had a proper NYE celebration since 1999 anyway... However, here’s also a nasty remix of that one ready for the clubs signed DJ Doc Rok, love it.

_081218: Club Cruz With Kellz

For every new Kellz track that hits the surface I get more and more intrigued by the thought of having sex with him. No, there’s no logic here, I’m just so curious to found out if he is that good as he claims to be. Often when guys pull off this big talk, it’s just... bare talk, unfortunately. I don’t even find R. Kelly attractive, but the words coming out of his big mouth, love self confident kinda guys, if they can back it up.

Here’s two new dance floor friendly tracks that increases my wish, just the silly lyric in She Knows It; "While I’m posted up like a playa, folding my arms and rubbin my chin. I’m focused on the booty, man just plotting on how to get in". Wonderful. Can’t wait for next year, not just the official release of "12 Play: Fourth Quarter" but also bringing the next 10 installments of "Trapped in the Closet" (part 24-34).

_081217: New J.T.+ T.I. + Timbo

This new collaborative track between the magic trio of Justin Timberlake, T.I. and Timbaland is not My Love that’s for sure. But it’s still a decent track, way better than Magic, J.T. works his falsetto just the right way and yeah, I like it.

The lyric in the beginning pissed me off thou, say hey to reproduce the picture of the good girl? U know, the constant struggle of never be too much, just be sexy but subtle, tipsy but not drunk, seriously, it’s not the 18th century anymore, lighten up and go head be gone with it.

_081216: I Got You Dancing

The official video for I Got You Dancing directed by Dandilion Wind Opaine features Lady Sov as a Ganguro in a Pikachu costume, as Joan Jett, as a part of a group zombie baseball players and a huge messy pile of other other flipped characters and it’s all kinda funny and cheeky. Sov all the way:

I really look forward to April and the release of her second album (on her new label Midget Records, in conjunction with EMI), now named "Jigsaw". Except for productions from an old Sovie partner, Medasyn that is, the production credits on "Jigsaw" also goes out to Dr Luke and Benny Blanco. In other words, a pretty good prospect so far.

_081216: Lost in the Sauce

Soulja Boy’s second album "iSouljaBoyTellEm" was released today. I haven’t had time to listen the whole thing thru just yet but one thing is clear, one of the best and solid tracks is definitely the Jim Jonsin produced Kiss Me Thru The Phone ft. Sammie:

Another track that’s kinda interesting is the second part of Donk (which was my fave track of his debut album), called Booty Got Swag. It feels like his old material like Bapes, Booty Meat and them tracks, prior all this Cucci bandana, Yamaha mama shit. One downside to this album is that 30% of the material (at least) feels sooo old and dated, like for example Whoop Rico with Show Stoppas, but well, if I know myself right this album will have grown on me in a week just like the last one did.

I think u know the whole Soulja Boy vs. Charles Hamilton clowning out on eachother so I will not run my mouth about that, just simply say that Charles Hamilton’s latest installment of his "The Hamiltonization Process" (a series of releases gearing up for that debut album release on Interscope), with probably with the worst name ever, "The Pink Lavalamp" (a 15-track album recorded during what Hamilton refers to as “the darkest period of his life) must have grated some good hype from it all. Btw, here Charles clarifies the so called beef with Soulja a bit further, with auto-tune and all:

The whole feud with Ice T was ridiculous, bare jokes really and it wasn’t hard to be on team Soulja on that one, here I chose to be Switzerland. I love 'em both, Charles Hamilton's new Brooklyn Girls is fantastic!

_081216: Head Shoulders Knees...

A couple of years back, when Uppsala Radical Cheerleaders still were alive and well we made an x-rated version of that old nursery rhyme/action/exercise-song called Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. One time, after we performed that very cheer on an event at Uni (a paid performance, people actually gave us gage, booze and food for cheering, feels kinda bizarre in retrospect) we were reported to the police for aggravated assault. The case never went anywhere but to us it was a solid proof that we stirred things up in Uppsala’s political climate at that time.

Now the K.I.G. (Kingz In Da Ghetto)-collective from the north and east of London has made that nursery rhyme into a full on dance floor banger to get down and wine that low to in collaboration with Mile Records. Got maaad love for this one!

.mp3: K.I.G. - Head, Shoulders, Knees 'n Toes (YSI) // (zShare)

_081215: No Gepetto To Guide Him

This newfound love of KanYe has really messed me up. Coz I actually enjoy this performance from SNL Saturdays even if his voice cracks like a pre-teen more than once:

I enjoy it with the same eyes I watched my old boyfriend’s hard core-band performing when I was a teenager. U know, ur all proud and shit, playing the part of the perfect girlfriend supporting but at the same time ur ashamed to death by his wannabee-rockstar-moves. KanYe truly looks like a 17 year old boy let upon a big stage for the first time and I don't hate, it makes me pull of a smile. Best part of it all is to hear the Pinocchio Story without a massive live audience.

.mp3: KanYe West - Heartless/Pinocchio Story (Live on SNL 13th December 2008) (YSI) // (zShare)

_081215: That Super Nu Nu Boo

Haha, oh my, I’m really really stupid sometimes. For example, yesterday my phone rang, the display blinked "Papi" and I got a bit stressed, wondered to myself who in God’s name I’ve named Papi. It felt sooo cheesy and way to corny for me to handle (the only thing worse naming someone must be Suga Daddie...) so I quickly came to the conclusion not to answer. 5 minutes later it occurred to me, it wasn’t some old casual sex-subject from back in the day trying to pull a booty call, it was in fact my father calling from his cell phone. I rarely speak to him on that number, hence the confusion in my small head.

Another stupid thing I’ve done recently is to dismiss KiD CuDi. Why? Well just by the fact that he released his mixtape "A Kid Named Cudi" in collaboration with 10 Deep. Seriously, I hate 10 Deep and my thought was that any relations with that fugly brand should be punished. But well, luckily my pragmatism and childish stubbornness is reversible. His part on KanYe’s Welcome to Heartbreak is amazing and how on earth can u dismiss a guy (kinda cute) who blurbs: "I’m jus Cudi u know?....I’m weird... I love cheeseburgers and beer...I only make music about realness....my lifes goal is to live on the moon lol....I’m a Lover, I’m a Fighter..I’m difficult 2 deal wit at times...a lot of people dont "get" me". I feel the connection, at least with the love for cheeseburgers and that people don’t always "get" me-part.

However, even thou I never had given the guy a proper chance before Welcome to Heartbreak I’ve felt for him throughout all his clashes with the music industry. First, when Jim Jones made that foolish and lazy remix of Day ‘N’ Nite and gained huge buzz and cred from it, CuDi’s feelings were "It's kinda wack that somebody established with a big name has to jump on your record before mutha----as start to feel it. That's my problem with the game. I think that's the lamest part of the game, of the industry". Second, when someone leaked this version of the KiD CuDi vs. Crookers - Day 'N' Nite-video (single will be re-released on Data Records 12th January 2009):

CuDi was not happy about the outcome, no one involved (him, G.O.O.D-music nor the Crookers) has approved it, but honestly, it’s not a bad video at all actually, can go on and on about videos from 2008 that all look like pure shit. However, all things come in three and now someone has leaked a new track called Super Boo from his upcoming album "Man on the Moon: The Guardians" (due for release in the spring of 2009). This leak, in comparison to the Crookers remix video, seems not disturbing to CuDi at all since it’s not the final version of the track and he actually points out a positive thing about it: "THE COOL THING ABOUT ALL THIS IS THAT I MADE THIS BEAT (yes I did, it was one of 5 beats i made and it was the only decent one too hahaha) AND U CAN HEAR HOW IT SOUNDS BEFORE WE FIX IT UP FOR THE FINAL PRODUCT (which I repeat will be magnificent)".

I bet it will, but since I’ve slept on the whole hype about Day ‘N’ Nite I’m still amazed by Dot Da Genius-beat on that one. Here’s also a new remix of the track featuring Collie Buddz, it’s not that surprising really, the lonely stoner seems to free his mind at nite... weed weed weeed. From Cleveland to Chi-town and to someone who actually reminds me a bit of Cudi, Hollywood Holt that is, whom I haven’t slept on. here’s a nyce new remix from Willy Joy of Hollywood.

_081213: The PingPong Remix

Let’s stay with the collaboration around the world-buiz for a while. Today, right about now, starts the event Musikhjälpen (the Music Help), an event from December 13 to 19 to raise money and awareness for refugees around the world. A part of this is the PingPong Remix-project, a collaborative music event connecting musicians from around the world to create music together. The goal is to break down cultural barriers and create worldwide musical exchanges.

PingPong Remix works by planting a sound seed. A sound seed is a basic beat, rhythm, melody, or even just small sound bites recorded in the artist’s culture. The seed then gets ping-ponged around the world so musicians can add their own musical layer.

Throughout the event, the website will be the central location where everybody with musical talent can download the sound seeds, add their own sounds and melody, upload and share. During the event, the online library of music will grow and be enriched by layers and remixes from different cultures.

In the final days of the event, established artists go through the music and pick a list of the best, which they then give the final polish. These complete tracks are then put online and made available to purchase, with all money going to Musikhjälpen! So all, get busy and join the cross cultural music marathon over here!

One artist, who definitely has broken down some cultural barriers, is M.I.A. here’s a fresh little goodie from her of the "Slumdog Millionaire" OST, a movie about an Indian boy who'll participate in a Hindi version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire".

_081213: More N.A.S.A.

Woop woop, this Saturday brings more goodies from the "N.A.S.A"-project sent to me via ThatRealIsh. I really like the idea behind this, the idea to ignore all of the boundaries and borders that are in place to keep people divided, such as musical genre, race, politics, geography, language, etc. As a result, Squeak E. Clean (Sam Spiegel) and DJ Zegon (Ze Gonzales). gathered the craziest and most eclectic collection of musicians ever assembled on one album in the hope that they can show, through music, that all those superficial divisions are an illusion. How pretentious it may sound but N.A.S.A. proves we are all one race of human beings interested in collaboration and unity, ignoring preconceptions, and transcending genre definitions.

So well, first, here’s the video for Money featuring David Byrne, Chuck D, Ras Congo, Seu Jorge and Z-Trip. Love the agit-prop take directed by Syd Garon and Paul Griswold, featuring the amazing artwork of Shepard Fairey:

Second, the Spacious Thoughts-track ft. Kool Keith and Tom Waits.

_081211: Body Roll and Twerk

Yepp, my only YouTube subscription, the amazing Twerk Team finally got the opportunity to be featured in a video other than their homemade rump shaking ones. So here they are, teaming up with Transfers from South Carolina, doing the Body Roll:

Body Roll is a decent track but the Twerk Team-girls steals the show and outshines everything, like come on, how are u gonna concentrate on the music with all that good distraction? Multitasking is difficult sometimes... However, this other track called POParazzi Status is waaaay better music wise. Absolutely loving it.

_081211: Gifted Oh Oh Oh

Consider this posting as a huge exception, coz u will never see the name Lykke Li on here again, ever, that’s a promise. Why? Well, she’s one of the most overrated musicians that came out of 2008, no question about it. It’s not just her music, her whole appearance just completely throws me off. Her so called dancing, her style, pof and well _everything_ about her can be described with just one word: YUCK!

I’m sorry but I fail to see what’s good about her, the same goes for Santogold, or well I can understand why she’s big in the game and all but she’s not my flavor. However, this little good collabo called Gifted, a hipsters wet dream, sort of sum up the hype of 2008 pretty good; Lykke Li. SantoGold and KanYe West. It's from the upcoming "N.A.S.A." (North America/South America)-album by Squeak E Clean and DJ Zegon which is set to be released the 17th of February 2009.

The N.A.S.A-project also features collaborations by Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O, Ol’ Dirty Bastard and Fatlip on the track Strange Enough, Tom Waits and Kool Keith on Spacious Thoughts and David Byrne, Chuck D, Ras Congo, Seu Jorge and Z-Trip on Money, as well as M.I.A., Spankrock to name a few.

Let’s also throw in a new remix of Love Lockdown signed Kimono Kops, it's sort of nippy, but got its temper.

_081209: Violence

I wonder just how many times I’ve been writing that Newham Generals debut album "Generally Speaking" is soon to be released. Feels like a dozen, or more. However, now soon has finally come, or well, soon is slated for February and the first single Head Get Mangled will drop the 19th of January. In wait for that, enjoy Violence ft. G Man (Slew Dem) and Dizzee Rascal. Hopefully this will be on OnSmash or something soon coz I can’t really cope with this poor YouTube-quality:

_081208: Lady Sovereign's BACK

After the whole breakdown at Studio B in Brooklyn, New York back in 2007 and then hibernating and recovering from abuse of alcohol Lady Sov’s finally back in buiz! What struck me first was that she seems do have gone under the same disturbing makeover Jenny Humpfrey did in this season of Gossip Girl. Smokey eyes, long bangs in the eyes, you know the typical stylists version of a rock chick. I miss that ponytail to the side Louise! But well, this first single I Got You Dancing from her upcoming album which is due for release the 6th of April (and is, in her own words; "the next chapter, it's a massive leap forward for mankind) is kinda interesting.

It’s something fresh and new but still the same good old cheeky midget with the Sss-oooh-veeee in the beginning, some Whooops and other sounds but most of all some tongue twisting witty rap. As cheesy as it may sound, this danced right into my heart!

.mp3: Lady Sovereign - I Got You Dancing (YSI) // (zShare)

_081208: Step By Step

I love when I’m proved wrong. Remember when I stated that there wasn’t gonna be a single good tune on Wiley’s "See Clear Now"? But oh, I was hella wrong coz after listing the whole thing through I found one... Boom! Step By Step shut me up, right in the kisser!

Seriously, it’s so good! How ever did that happened? HOW?! Guess the mental production by Hot Chip is a pretty good bet, absolutely loving it and Wiley’s part isn’t that bad either actually. This collabo came about after the two acts performed a version of Wearing My Rolex at the 2008 Glastonbury Festival.

Some readers have told me that I should stop hate on Wiley. But well, I stop hate on Wiley when he stops acting like a dumb, stubborn child on the Internet. When he starts to deliver on stage instead of just goofing around bragging about money (if he turns up, the past years I’ve been to soooo many shows addressing his name on the poster, but did he show? No, always pulled a Wiley, a no-show that is).

Don’t get me wrong, I loved the good old Wiley, the Wiley I saw on stage at Plastic People back in early 2005, the Wiley who was all about the Eskimo and Ice, prior the "TunnelVision"-series, prior the Rolex-hype and prior this adaptation to do a fully commercial album and the wish to be the male equivalent to Missy Elliott.

I know, things needs to develop, stagnation is bad, but with this so called progression the past 3 years, I can’t see that Wiley has developed, quite the contrary and I can’t help being a reactionary twat. But well, am I able to begin to love KanYe West after all that hate, I’m sure I’ll be able to fully like Wiley again as well, my opinions are not carved in stone and Step By Step is a small step on the way. "See Clear Now" is out today (in almost every shop there is, at least online) and even if I don’t really buy into this pop-ish and electro-ish type of Wiley I’m sure that others will and that it will generate more money, more Rolexes and champers for him. My hope for Wiley to redeem himself lies within "Race Against Time" which is (currently) due for release early next year.

Ps. I have never pictured Wiley as sexy in any way, but I must say, he’s actually doable in the picture above, that look, I’m hooked. And 123, I just took another step on that road of putting Wiley back into my heart.

_081205: Bear Safe Goldie

Many readers have asked me where they can get GoldieLocks' amazing track Smash and Grab and here’s the answer! It will be available on her new EP called "Bear Safe" out Monday 8th December on 12" vinyl, CD, iTunes, Amazon via Locked On and u can purchase a Vinyl or CD via this link. Seriously, I love Goldie, this EP is really good.

I even love her big feature in the January 2009 issue of Maxim magazine. Magazines like Maxim (guess the Swedish equivalent must be Slitz?) always cracks me up. Captions like "Maxim’s 5-a-side keeper was inexperienced but she spread herself well" like on the first Goldie-photo for example... Priceless.

But well, in difference to many many features of Maxim this is quite a tasteful shoot, it’s Goldie; a proper styling with tonz of nyce props such as a Bearbrick 400%, a cute and purple lace bra, peep toe shoelettes and the Spanish twist of the Reebok Freestyle High and well Goldie’s hot so why not show it off? I know many girls having huge probs whit their fellow sisters flashing a boob, a nipple or two but hey, what’s the big deal? I sure don’t get it (and I guess I never will).

However, the EP contains aside from Smash and Grab, the amazing Muthafuckaa! (ft. Miss Odd Kidd and Cocknbullkid) and some old Goldie gold such as Havin’ Er Up and Dolla Dolla. It also includes a refix of N.E.R.D’s Provider that was sent to me a long time ago as a free download but I never had the time to write about it, so well, here it is:

.mp3: GoldieLocks - Provider Refix (YSI) // (zShare)

_081203: Tear It Up

I guess the comparison between my newfound love Mz Streamz and Rye Rye is inevitable since they both are two young females, two of the brightest shining stars of the Baltimore scene, share close ties with Mad Decent but I think it’s quite annoying to compare them actually. They both make funny party music and that’s pretty much it. Rye Rye rules with her dancing skillz, Mz Streamz is a tighter rapper and I love 'em both, end of story. Mz Streamz banger Tear It Up is signed DJ Sega and its absolutely fantastic!

.mp3: Mz Streamz - Tear It Up (YSI) // (zShare)

_081202: Take Me Back

I've found one positive thing with being sick, got loads of time on my hands, time for doing my nails, they’re now super fresh and write like crazy. I’ve decided that I’m going to Uppsala tomorrow whether I’m well or not, have important things to attend to on Friday and I miss my old hoods, peeps and family.

Anyway, like I said before, this Tinchy ft. Taio Cruz track is so good, yeah sure, very adapting and commercial (I can see my mami driving to work listing to this on the radio, if the Swedish Radio pick this up), but yet, _GOOD_, dance floor friendly and nyce. Tinch doing in big now and a proper video, I’ve got nothing to complain on aside from one thing, that tribal tattoo on the girls shoulder in the beginning, a tribal is never ever ever okay, but I guess that pole work at the end evens it out;

Take Me Back is out to download and on CD-single January 19th. Love the remix with Chipmunk and Sway (yeah, I even love Sway's part, can u belive...). The track below is the original of Rollin’ without Roachee but with Delusion instead taken from the "Tinchy Stryder vs. Maniac" EP, out now.

.mp3: Tinchy Stryder ft. Delusion - Rollin' (YSI) // (zShare)

_081202: Go Hard as a Roc

I’m ill, again, seriously same rant every month, I hate my immunes system, it doesn’t work the way it should apparently. I’m like susceptible to illnesses as a new born baby and it bores the hell out of me, I don’t have time for this! I was supposed to go to Uppsala and Stockholm tomorrow. But well, I guess it’s just to accept the awful fact that my bed is the place to be for now and watch some series and drink loads of water?

Speaking of series, waiting for the last episode of Gossip Girl to get finished, seriously I’m kinda annoyed by the music featured in GG. At least one Santogold song in each episode seems mandatory and I never been much of a fan of Santo, never done a post about her before. But well, let’s break that rule for a minute, this new track from the forthcoming "Notorious O.S.T" with Jay-Z (yet another produced by KanYe) actually pleases my ears. Yepp, I’m shocked as well. Oh I really hope that that movie will turn out great, I’m so curious about how Naturi Naughton (formerly of 3LW) gonna manage portraying Lil’ Kim for example. While we’re on Jay-Z for that matter, B has done a tribute to her hubby and it’s just too sugary sweet for me and I understand why it didn’t make it all the way to the album.

.mp3: Jay-Z ft. Santogold - Brooklyn (Go Hard) (YSI) // (zShare)

_081202: Nike Boots (Off. Video)

Almost a whole year after the hype, here it is finally, Wale’s official Nike Boots video:

Personally. I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing Nike Boots, damn fugly shoes, but well, the song still got it, let’s pretend it’s December 2007 all over again and chant Flyer than the rest of them, flyer than the rest of them.

.mp3: Wale ft. Lil' Wayne - Nike Boots (Remix) (YSI) // (zShare)

_081201: Real Bitch Lockdown

My internetz been down almost for a whole week, super annoying, all I’ve done is watching Alias, listening to old school crunk and Baltimore and training; took my first steps into a gym for like 11 years and I panicked. I’m so _not_ a gym person, I don’t do machines or weights, pilates, yoga and things like that are my thang and now I definitely know for sure. That’s pretty much it. But now, new week, new month and let’s get back into buiz shall we?

As I said, December’s here and I know that some other blogs will do their countdown for Christmas and things like that, but not me. Frankly I don’t have the time and I actually think it’s more interesting to focus on the now than what was hot the past 11 months, I’ll do a round up around new years instead, so, let’s pick up where we left off, with KanYe.

I’m quite buffed that "808’s and Heartbreak" has gotten so many negative reviews as it has, that album is fantastic and anyone who fail to see that is plain stupid and should not write about music, period. Nyce argumentation, I know, but seriously, u can’t argue that the record is bad, coz it’s not, def one of the best releases that came out of 2008 in my opinion and that’s pretty hard to admit to my prior hating on mr. West. I think he redeems his self from Graduation, doing something minimalistic and honest instead of that bloated teddy bear with a twisted ego, but that’s just me. Some crappy remixes has surfaced, among them one that features Rick Ross on Heartless, but don’t get ur hopes up, it’s boring, what has happened to Ross? His rap is so weak there’s no need for posting.

The Gutta Remix signed Debonair Samir of Love Lockdown on the other hand is everything but boring. Sometimes I get really bored with his sound, the constant using of Samir’s Theme (like it ruined the remix of Mr. Vegas Oh My Gosh for example) but this makes me long for his forthcoming LP "Samir’s Revenge" even more. Samir recently released a digi-EP with Aaron LaCrate called "Get Pissy" featuring this little pearl of nasty femme rap and Baltimore, like the perfect blend of my previous week.
